Sunday Solace

After a week of fun in the sun, everybody was ready for a quiet day. Church seemed to go a little better than last week, as far as the kids are concerned. Even though kid-wrangling is not my favorite past time, I really enjoy the chance to sit with Jennifer and the boys during the meetings. Towards the end of the meeting Joshua became particularly unruly, so he and I went on a walk outside. However, I quickly realized that the windows in the back of the overflow (which was full) were all open, so walking behind the church while he was still upset didn't really eliminate the noise. He may have just been too warm, or too tired, or both, but he didn't want to calm down at all, so I took him back to the car and strapped him into his car seat to help contain his energy. Joshua and I had a good chat there in car, and by the time we walked back to the chapel the meeting was basically over. So maybe Joshua didn't get much out of the meeting, but at least Jennifer didn't have to be the one outside with the kids for a change.

Most of us took all the "Sunday" pictures we wanted last week, so we didn't stick around very long after the meeting ended. It was back to the condo for quiet time, lunch, and a little more quiet time. We just needed to hold the boys off until it was time for the Sugar Cane Train. Believe it or not, timing is everything with an activity like this. You need to sun to be in the right place, the boys have to behave to earn the trip, and you have to finish with enough time to get back and settled before dinner, but not so much time that there is the potential for more rowdiness. Today we got it just right. In fact, the boys were worn out enough that all of them fell asleep for at least part of the trip. At one point we looked over at Joshua (who was sitting on a bench by himself), and his head kept bobbing up and down because he was falling asleep sitting up. If I hadn't caught him, we would have fallen off of the bench!

We were in charge of dinner tonight (which meant I stayed with the boys while Jennifer cooked at Mom & Dad's condo). She made chicken cordon bleu with tons of rice and sauce, and it was delicious. When Mom & Dad made the decision to stay in condos and cook for each other every night, it was the right one. By far less expensive than eating out all the time, the food is better, and there is far more family time than if we were all seated at four or five different tables. For dessert, Mom and Dad got an ice cream cake to celebrate Jennifer's birthday (even though it isn't for a few more weeks). Mmmmmmm, ice cream cake!
